How to Take a Screenshot
PC Directions
- Open the file or webpage you want to use in a screenshot.
- On your keyboard, press the “Alt” key and the “Prt Scrn” at the same time. This will copy the image to the clipboard.
- Open PowerPoint (there are other programs you can use, but PowerPoint seems to work well).
- Create a new show with a blank slide
- Right-click on the blank slide and choose “paste”
- Click once on the image that is pasted on the slide so that you can access the picture formatting toolbar.
- Use the crop tool (the 2 intertwined L’s) to get rid of any unnecessary parts of your image.
- Right-click on the image and choose “save as picture”. Then save the picture to your key drive or the desktop of your computer.
- Insert the picture using the same steps as you have used to insert other pictures on your portfolio.
Mac Directions
- Open the file or webpage you want to use in a screenshot.
- Hold down the “Command”, “Shift”, and “4” keys at the same time.
- You will see small cross-hairs appear on the desktop. Drag a box around the part of the image you want to use by clicking the right mouse button.
- When you release the right mouse button a new image will be saved automatically to your desktop. It will most likely be called “Screen shot [date] at [time].”
- Insert the picture using the same steps as you have used to insert other pictures on your portfolio.
